I bought this after researching all the options for installing a radar detector on my '09 Kawasaki Concours. Since I travel long distances, the most important thing for me was the convenience and usability of the device on long journeys. My requirements were: * Must be connected and mounted to the bike - I don't want cables running all over the place * Must have a visual warning system - I don't want to run a lot of audio into my helmet and I wear earplugs and can at high speeds don't hear well * Must be easy to remove and latch for both safety and legality in Virginia and Washington * Must be weatherproof - I ride in all weather, don't want a bit of rain to ruin the unit. The Adaptive Motorbike solution suits my riding style best. I mounted the unit on a RAM mount next to my GPS - the base plate that came with it has the standard APM hole pattern which makes mounting easier. Visual alarm LEDs are mounted just below my dash. In my normal riding position on the bike, the LEDs are at the very bottom of my peripheral vision, and when they light up they definitely get my attention. Please note that the LEDs will flash along with the signal strength so you can tell if the signal is strong or weak without looking at the device. Just remember that you need to look at the display to see what type of radar/laser signal it is receiving. The buttons on the device are simple and easy to use when wearing gloves, and the LCD is legible at a glance unless it's in direct sunlight. It easily attaches and detaches from the base plate with just one cable for power and visual notification. While I haven't ridden it in the rain yet, it appears to be of quality construction and I'd be surprised if moisture was an issue. I don't have time to do it myself, but my local shop installed the whole thing for me in less than 90 minutes. At the moment I rode with him for a weekend. False alarms were minimal in the city and nonexistent on the freeway. Once I got used to visual warnings, I didn't have to take my eyes off the road to notice my older brother watching me. One thing that wasn't required for me was the size. I have a large bike so the fact that this unit is quite large didn't bother me. If you have a smaller sport bike, you'll probably want to mount it somewhere in the middle of the handlebars so it doesn't stick out too much. Large keys with glove distance make the device appear larger, there is nothing you can do about it. UPDATE - January 2017 - Still running after 3-4 seasons in all weathers, no problem.
