These shoes took very little breaking in; they were comfortable from day one. There is nice support surrounding the heel with enough room in the toe box area that my toes aren't squeezed. The sole has a good amount of squishiness to it making it comfortable yet firm enough to actually provide support while hiking. I've taken this pair of shoes on a few hikes now and these work well.
