Decided to ditch cable boxes and switch to streaming. I have an old 43" in a room. An HDTV monitor (no tuner) that only has analog outputs (yes, old enough to not have speakers or optical outputs!). I used the cable box's optical output to connect to a Roku soundbar. Removing the cable box left me with no sound. It's the perfect device - small, versatile and just works! I connected it to the RCA audio out of the Connected the monitor and attached it with velcro at the back. Then I ran an optical cable to the Roku soundbar and viola! Everything is decided. I connect HDMI to the monitor and digital back to the soundbar. Now I'm a happy tourist. I'm reconsidering whether I should buy another one as a backup.
