Does what it's supposed to do

I bought this base model because I needed it for a 3 month stay in California. After eight weeks I'm not lost, I'm happy to say that. Sometimes the instructions are a bit confusing and I missed the shutdown, but once I figured out those little quirks, no more problems. I think more complex lane management would be a huge benefit if we spent more time in LA, but we mostly avoid big intersections, I don't have a problem. My only real complaint is that the battery life sucks, even after an hour. If you drive with GPS all the time, the battery will still show only a half charge, and even a 10-minute drive without a connection to the network (or leaving a fully charged device turned off overnight) means a low battery warning battery level is displayed. I suspect I have a faulty model but my daughter has a Tom Tom Start which is the UK equivalent model and is having the exact same problem. Basically, I always leave it plugged in. I think the new mounting clip is a big improvement in many ways but be aware this will not work with some NavMats and when the charger is plugged in the car is not standing on any surface it has to be mounted on the glass, which annoys me as I'm very small and can't easily reach the windshield. this is great value for money.
