We are working hard to build a larger marine aquarium. First, this is a very good value for the size of the marine buffer. A 1kg bottle should last most users for quite a while. I studied the dosing instructions for my 105 gallon system for a week. We had a pH of 7.7, which was slightly lower. I didn't want to confuse things, but after a week we were able to get the pH down to 7.9. Measuring pH can be tricky so I hope there is some margin of error and that it can be in the 8.0 to 8.3 range. We use the Hanna test system which appears to be one of the most accurate on the market. . I say that because we also watched our alkalinity. Before using Marine Buffer (and nothing else!) ALK was 8.0. After a week of use, that number rose to 12.5. I did a 6-8% water change and got it down to 11.4, but I'm a little concerned that this buffer POSSIBLY was the culprit for this increase in alkalinity. This may be fine for some corals, but we are only building one aquarium, so I did not expect or desire such a result. On the plus side, it's a relatively simple alkalinity reduction solution that really helped with pot pH. So as long as you pay attention, you'll probably be able to use this in your no-reef system.
