Review on ELECROW RC050S: 5" Capacitive Touchscreen Raspberry Monitor - Portable & High Resolution (800X480P) by Jake Larson

Great (if not quite perfect) Pi 3 or 4 screen

This is a great solution for adding an LCD to your Raspberry Pi project. The included brackets and smart U adapters meant I could mount the Pi right on the back of the screen and connect HDMI and touch without the bulky cables sticking out everywhere! This will power my 3D printer's OctoPi, but I could definitely find another use for this design since the kit is so unobtrusive overall. I deducted 1 star because of the screen quality. Let's just say I'm not sure if it's actually an IPS panel. Viewing angles are lacking and the screen has that "grainy" or "blotchy" look sometimes seen on lower quality LCDs - luckily only noticeable up close or against very bright/white backgrounds . Overall I wouldn't do that. I really don't want this to be used in a situation where display quality was an important factor, like gaming, watching videos etc., but for an IoT display that is more about functionality than display quality, it does its job. The included fan is very quiet and was a nice addition, although I'm not sure if the thermal tape that's supposed to stick it to the Pi is actually THERMAL tape or just double sided tape, so I'll probably replace it with a suitable one double-sided thermal tape as soon as possible. . I really hope Elecrow comes out with a 7" or 10" version that uses U adapters (and a higher quality screen) - just add those low profile A/V/Touch pass adapters, without overloading the GPIO. Ports open up a huge world of uses for Pi projects.
