The fabric is thin and dries quickly but I wouldn't settle for many rough stone or brick surfaces if you expect them to last long.But the fabric is thick enough not to overwhelm you and there's a little extra use on it front for added coverage. I'm 6'1" and have long legs, 34" inseam and they hit my knees so very small boys might find them a little long.
