Review on πŸ”§ Superteam 700c Carbon Bicycle Wheelset: Front 60mm & Rear 88mm Clincher Wheels with Transparent Decal by Prettyboy Capers

really good aero wheelset

Superteam 60/88 wheels are a great wheelset. I have used them for regular road riding and as an alternative wheelset for my time trial bike. They are light and robust. The 60/88 section is still easy to handle even in strong crosswinds. I like the 23mm width, it allows for a much wider range of tires compared to wider rims which can only use really wider tires. The inside of the rim is rounded for better aerodynamics like more modern rims. The Continental tires I use run very well with no mounting issues or bead fit issues. The rims come with pre-installed rim tapes. This front wheel uses an 80mm long Presta valve and an approximately 120mm long valve in the rear. For the rear I used a Conti hose with a 60mm valve and a 60mm extension (Continental - available on Amazon) to get the desired length. When ordering, make sure you have the correct hose length with valve. I use Conti hoses because they have a removable valve core so you can use extensions that screw into the valve stem of the hose and use the valve core on the extended end. The wheels came with a really nice set of black anodized aluminum valve extensions that extend 60mm. So if you have 40mm and 60mm tubing with detachable cores on hand they will give the correct length for 60/88 depth. Just make sure you have the right length of removable cores on hand to mount the hoops. The wheelset comes with extra spokes and nipples, which comes in handy in case you run into trouble. The wheelset also comes with a set of 4 gray carbon disc brake pads which are very similar to the pads that ENVE supply with their brake pad rims. The brake pads fit all Shimano pad holders. Speaking of brake pads, the basalt braking surface is great and I've had no trouble braking on any incline, no whine, no fade. Just remember that after switching to carbon rims and their associated brake pads, you should not use aluminum rims as pieces of aluminum will dig into the pads and potentially damage the carbon rims. Just something to note for people making the switch from aluminum rims. The wheels also come with a set of QR skewers, which are pretty good, fairly light for steel bars, and have beautifully crafted details. They close with a cam mechanism and hold the wheel very well in the dropouts. For unknown reasons, this wheelset was missing a part on the QR rear skewer. The part where the cam lever sits was not on the skewer. Most likely a manufacturing/packaging issue and something outside of Superteam's control, but they responded to my Revain request and sent me a brand new set of QR skewers, which arrived a day or two after I reported the issue. No questions. Well, they asked for a photo. Still great service. The hub has a smooth ride and comes with a spacer to use a 8, 9, 10 speed Shimano cassette, or the spacer can be removed and the 11 speed cassette will fit perfectly. The set I received came with UCI legal decals which is an added bonus. This is not my first Superteam wheelset. They have great customer service and at least for the US stock bikes they have, shipping is pretty fast. I have had many other carbon rims (from other manufacturers) but they are as good or better than any others I have had. I highly recommend buying these wheels if you are thinking of a lighter set or are going for a carbon wheel. I have to assume that if you need a deeper or shallower rim, other Super Team depth rims are just as good. Just to reiterate, Superteam wheels are awesome and may be the last wheelset you will ever need.
