Review on ๐Ÿถ Enhance Your Dog's Mobility with Kruuse Rehab Knee Protector by Rebecca Carey

I prefer the Kruuse to the Walkabout

I have an older dog who loves long walks but his bump and sore knee (combination of arthritis and torn ligament) get in the way. However, he has a sharp mind and is an excellent problem solver. Since he likes going out, he has worked very wisely with me on my various attempts to make his life easier. A while back I bought a stroller so we (with other dogs) can go for walks and when he gets tired he can hitchhike the rest of the way. We voted on when he wanted to "take a break" and when he was ready to do a little more. We thought about building him a wheelchair to help him manage his knee pain better but we haven't gotten around to it yet so I researched knee support options and found these Kruuse Rehab knee pads and neoprene support sleeve Walkabout Canine Knee Brace 3.0 ordered .mm [http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0145YQESI?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=od_aui_detailpages00]I bought a walking knee brace for the first time and took it with me on the way taken to walk without having read the instructions. It seemed pretty easy to put it on your knee and close it because the stroller has two flaps to enclose the dog's body. However, it kept falling off, so I don't know how much it helped. It wasn't until we got back that I realized the description of the item clearly says you need to attach it to your own trailer, which I didn't realize at all when ordering. As I don't currently have a harness for this dog, I can't say I've tested it for sure. Then I tried Kruuse. Again took it for our walk without instructions. Unlike a crutch, the Kruuse only has one strap and how to put it on your dog was counterintuitive. My first attempt was to go over his body and then under his stomach, but that didn't work because the belt wasn't long enough. I checked the reviews on Amazon and read one that said to wrap it under the belly then over the croup and it worked for us. The lower abdomen runs straight into the top of the leg, and the part above the croup ends a few inches above the tail. It is then fastened in the side pocket with Velcro. We walked for an hour (about 45 minutes on foot and 15 minutes in a wheelchair for him) and Kruuse never fell. He seemed to bounce and seemed more stable as he paced up and down the corners of the sidewalk. He could urinate and poop with no problems. I think it would be nice if it was a bit tighter in the knee area, but that's an easy fix with some basic sewing skills. I also read another reviewer who said it shrunk a bit after washing so might try that. All in all it was a great success. I've uploaded some photos of him sitting on it.

Pros
  • Great for outdoor activities
Cons
  • Not sure
