It takes a little force to close the lid, but no more than I had to use to engage the latch before installing the cup holder. It's better to be paranoid that the drink dispenser came loose and my cups fell off. and drinks spilled on my floor. I don't drink Red Bull in thin cans when it comes to energy drinks, but if I had one of those thinner cans I'd probably just toss them in the OEM holder anyway. Which, by the way, costs $60 from the junkyard. Sixty bucks for some mid-90's Chrysler junk.
