I had a CV axle that was NOT disconnected so I bought it. My mechanic friend showed me a little trick. Although I'd previously tried hitting the shoulder of the CV joint with a hammer to try to loosen it (on my 2007 Lincoln MKX, right), my friend had me place the Pien Hammer ball exactly where I hit earlier , and then hit hard on the "ball" portion of a stationary hammer with a second ball-tipped hammer of equal or larger size. Damn if the CV axle hadn't fallen out of the splines! I was surprised! (I've tried a few different "fork" tools before, in addition to trying to twist the joint with a hammer for hours! I've even tried a portal jack to try and pry it out.) The "two-hammer" tool approach works very well. better than anything!
