I see in some reviews that this lamp does not work as stated it stays on even when the lamp is off. I suspect it has more to do with following the instructions than the bulb itself (although it's possible some people have gotten faulty bulbs). Let me explain: the instructions tell you to leave the bulb on for 10 hours when you first receive it. And it's not just about charging - it takes less than 10 hours to charge such a small battery. I'm guessing the lightbulb is calculating the length of wire it's connected to - resistance, capacitance, whatever. If he finds out, he'll know the difference between a lamp cord or light switch and a power outage. In my case, after 10 hours of charging, the lamp went out when I turned off the lamp. I turned it back on and turned off the lamp and it went out. But when I turned it back on and flipped the breaker it stayed on as it was further away and simulating a blackout. So it worked for me and I suspect it will work for you too. A small thing that may apply to some people is that the part of the bulb that glows is closer to the top of the bulb than normal. If you look at my photos, the first is a banker style table lamp with a standard LED bulb. The second shows it with that bulb, and you can see that the light is concentrated in half of the bulb and isn't evenly distributed. The third is in blackout mode, much dimmer and with the same power dissipation issue. If you orient the bulb vertically, that's not a problem, but I wanted to point that out. A handy bulb to have somewhere in the lamp in case of a power outage. I liked the simplicity and tranquility.
