Started well but didn't live (broken recoil spring).

Update: This tape measure proved to be short-lived. I bought it on February 21st and on June 21st the internal spring burst. It doesn't clean up anymore, so it's basically garbage. I've never extended it more than 15 feet or so, and I haven't even used it that much. A quick search reveals I'm not the only person with this spring issue. Quite disappointing in the end because otherwise it looked like a great tape measure. ************** Original review ************* So far I like this tape measure. It feels firm in the hand, the ribbon release effect is positive and smooth, the ribbon pulls and retracts smoothly, the pressure is sharp and dark, the ribbon itself is strong and stretches enough without bending. I like that the ticker has fractional totals printed on it so it's easy to get 3-3/8 or whatever without counting the ticks. The only thing I would like to point out, which should actually go without saying, is that this tape measure is designed for large measurements. The band has a distinct cup shape that allows it to stretch widely without bending. It also has a pretty beefy body. A handy side effect of both of these things is that when you have lots of small, detailed measurements on flat objects, you'll feel a little uncomfortable putting tape on the surface to mark your measurements. You need to tilt the tape to one side so that one edge touches the surface and you need to pull the tape out far enough so that the body of the tape doesn't come in contact with the part you're measuring because that's where the tape comes from the ribbon, the edge is about 1/4 inch over bare. It is no problem for me. I have several different squares and rulers, as well as a smaller tape measure that I use for detail work, like this one. But just something to keep in mind, if you're mostly measuring small flat items, this may not be the best option for the job. Still a great roulette, just not for that.

Pros
  • Measure of length
Cons
  • So far so good
