Review on Dell UltraSharp U2711: 27 Inch Widescreen Monitor with High Resolution, Anti-Glare Display by Som Holden

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Perfect for me but maybe not for you. A week of abuse.

I bought this monitor specifically for computer games. If you have a graphics card capable of maintaining acceptable frame rates at a native 2560 x 1440p, you'll be truly amazed at the massive improvement over gaming resolutions of 1920 x 1080p. I'm using an overclocked 7970 graphics card to power it and the best word to describe it is AWESOME. For non-gaming graphic content such as photos, etc., the additional resolution makes for a very real and noticeable improvement when viewing content at higher resolutions. Extreme resolutions require you to run the operating system and browsers at higher zoom settings and the results may or may not be acceptable to you. Text can appear blurry or hard to read, which can make things worse when surfing the web or working in Microsoft Office. I got used to it for surfing, but I do most of my office work on a company laptop. The glossy anti-reflective coating mentioned in other reviews is present and stands out against the white background. Doesn't matter much for my use. The monitor controls are the best of any monitor I've had. The stand is solid and tilts back and forth just enough to accommodate my needs. The device is heavy and durable, looks and feels like a professional quality product. For a dedicated gaming rig, this is a good choice. but if I only had one computer, I'd settle for a 24-inch 1080p monitor as a great all-around compromise that works well for gaming and imaging but is better suited for general computing and office use.
