No base layer - too thick
They are too thick and bulky to be a base layer. I can't imagine what kind of clothes you could wear over it. However, fleece is soft and pleasant to the touch. The shirt fits as expected. The pants are too big. I was going to return the whole set but my daughter loves the soft fleece so we kept it and she wears the shirt as a sweatshirt instead of a base layer.
