Review on Antennas Direct 70 Mile Range Yagi Directional UHF DTV Antenna - 4K Ready, Attic & Outdoor Use, All-Weather Mounting Hardware, Adjustable Mast Clamp - UE-MX91 by Paul Dye

Revainrating 5 out of 5

UPDATE: very responsible manufacturer. Works perfectly.

First of all this antenna has worked great for about a year. We live in the woods about 70 miles in a straight line from the nearest tower but we've hit all the local channels. Then we gradually lost the signal. Started 5 months after purchase. Up until now living in the outback I assumed it was something else and not an antenna. I felled the trees. I cut down trees. I have replaced the cable. I moved it and used fewer cables. I moved the post somewhere else. I pulled out my compass and set the last declination. It kept getting worse until there was nothing left. We went from 16 channels to none no matter what. It turns out that the problem is in the antenna. Who would have thought it was more than wires? The black box on the back is a small circuit board and has a 5-pin cable connector. This connection is really weak, basically just sitting around (not really connected). Maybe there is a technical reason for this. Somehow this area was being eaten away like crazy. I cleaned the contacts but the connection was never the same again. UPDATE: The company sent me a new black box for free. Easy swap, works great. This antenna really works, it's the ONLY antenna that works for us (in the woods, 75+ miles from towers = great reception). I put a small plastic snow guard on the box to prevent future corrosion (or my other box was just bad). All in all, I'm not a whiner: if the waitress brings me the wrong food, I see it as an opportunity to try something new. In this case I had to send a note to the manufacturer because the lack of a cable is really great (MURIKA!). I sent a quick (hopefully polite but alarming) message and received a new part within a week. In an age when the consumer is what needs to be exploited and every little thing turned into a commodity (I look at you soda companies pouring tap water), it's nice when a company endorses its product. I'm going back to 5 stars in this case.

Pros
  • Feels good
Cons
  • No insurance
