The photos are quite low resolution and the shutter speed is really really slow

I bought this Bell+Howell Splash WP7 12MP waterproof camera to take with me when I was vacationing in Mexico with my roommates and friends. The camera is trying to do what the camera is supposed to do. It has buttons that make cameras, as well as a shape and other details. I say it tries to do what other cameras do because it only tries and rarely succeeds. The build quality of the camera body is actually quite good. It doesn't look like it will break easily and seems like it could take a bit of a beating although I won't be testing that aspect. Where this camera fails is perhaps the most important part of what a camera should do; Make photos. The images look very low resolution and the shutter speed is really really slow. I took a lot of photos, and I mean a lot while on the beach and in the water, but really only a handful turned out good. I'm by no means a professional photographer but I love photography as a hobby and have point and shoot cameras as well as some DSLRs and this camera just doesn't meet my needs. The main problem of the camera is the shutter speed. Processing takes forever. From the moment you press the button to the moment it actually takes a picture, it takes a very, very long time. So long that I usually knew what and when I was actually photographing. It's even more difficult underwater as there is no viewfinder, which I didn't think was a big problem at first, but it turned out to be one of the biggest problems. Framing photos is almost impossible. I can't count the number of photos I've had to delete because half of what I was trying to capture was off screen. That's all out of the water, by the way, and underwater it's even more of a gamble on what's in front of the screen, when a button press is registered, and how the shutter button responds. For a cheap waterproof camera, it worked. As cropped and blurry as most of the shots are, I was able to go home with a few good photos. Summer; If I need a waterproof camera in the future, I will most likely buy another one. It worked when I was in a bind, but that's about it.
