I have used a Bell bike rack which does not fall into the budget category and it was of excellent quality. So I had no hesitation in buying this toddler Bell Shadow helmet for my son, knowing that it was a good value product, with some expectation of good quality from Bell as it is a brand. I was honestly quite disappointed with the workmanship when I first opened the package and almost sent it back due to the cheap materials. Worst of all is the black tape around the helmet between the red top and the white foam! This looks like a 5 year old work, not a commercial product from a trusted brand! However, I did tell my 2 year old that the helmet is a bit larger but this is made up for by the fact that the straps are tight. Shortly after that we fell in love with him because he makes our boy so cute, he looks like Super Mario with a red mushroom round helmet! Ha ha. We decided to keep it as our boy is quite gentle and will only wear it to scooter rides in the park under our supervision. The helmet should do the job we expect as we hope it will only protect it from head/face scratches without direct contact if it falls off. If you can agree, the 2-year-old isn't going to ride a mountain bike and his fall from his height to the ground doesn't really hurt. The scooter could be worse, but we think he's likely more likely to suffer more injuries to his body and limbs than his head. This helmet is definitely not for you if you are looking for absolute quality and all-round protection for your child. Hope that helps!
