Review on ๐Ÿ” Enhance Braking Performance: Kool-Stop Dual Compound Mountain Pads for Linear Pull Brakes (Threaded, Black/Salmon) by Wendell Chapman

Revainrating 5 out of 5

MAY work for bikes with rim brakes

Although these pads are advertised for linear brakes I am currently using them on a bike with rim brakes (pivoting side brakes if you want specs) and so far they have worked she flawless. Note, however, that they will not necessarily work for all bikes with rim brakes. First of all, these pads have threaded contacts. So if your current pads have unthreaded contacts, they probably won't work. In addition, because these pads are very long, they protrude between the rim and fork, so adequate clearance between the rim and fork is required to use them. As a totally unscientific test, I can easily slip my thumb between the rim and fork of my bike, leaving enough room for long pads. In terms of performance, these pads are definitely a big improvement over the stock pads they replaced. I still don't have as much stopping power as I was hoping, but the fault may be with the brakes themselves (original brakes, ie cheapest the manufacturer could find), not the pads. Also, these pads squeak a bit. I managed to bend them so they don't creak at all when new, but they actually get louder when broken. So far it's a soft squeak, not a banshee scream, which is scary. Dogs two blocks away. A readjustment might eliminate the squeak again, but since hours spent microscopically adjusting brake pads are pretty low on my list of favorite things to do, I just leave them alone unless they get louder and louder. Because these pads are curved to fit a 26" wheel, the flex on my 700C wheels is a bit wrong. A small part of the "plow tip" hangs under the braking surface of the rim. Results with different rims. Another thing that might bother some people is that these pads can look a little silly. The stanchions are so long that they stick out almost to the fork on my bike and the salmon color kind of clashes with mine. dark blue and turquoise bike. I don't care - brake pads are brake pads - but if you want everything on your bike to be color matched and look new from the factory, consider the size and color of the brake pads. these pads before you buy them.
