Soak SNOW-WHITE overnight!

I've been bleaching my whites for years to lighten them. However, there is always a risk of bleach ruining off-white areas on off-white items (banding, streaks, etc.). I've had so many sheets with gray stains or streaks on the sheets that turn pink when the concentrated bleach touches them during the wash before it's diluted. We recently moved in and got a highly efficient top loading washer/dryer and liquid bleach is no longer an option as there is no water filled tank to dilute the bleach. My first wash with bleach ruined so many things I had to look for an alternative. I've tried Oxyclean as a laundry detergent before, but never thought of using it for white laundry. I recently read online about the soaking method. I was very skeptical, how does soaking in water without stirring make whites whiter? I put some pillowcases in a bucket and let them soak in Oxyclean White Revive overnight. I forgot about it and left it for two nights. I was amazed when I pulled out the pillowcases and the water was dirty brown. I literally didn't scrub or stir and somehow the oxcyclean removed the layers of dirt and dirt soaked fibers and turned the water a cloudy brown! My pillowcases were WHITE! I couldn't remember how white they were from the day I bought them because they became "creamy" over the years. A quick cycle in the washing machine (no bleach) and they turned snow white. The best part is that the covers had black stripes on the sides and they REMAIN BLACK! There were no color transitions at all. I tried a few other things, white shirts, white sweaters, more white sheets and a gray sweater in the bath. Like last time, without my doing, the water turned horribly brown and yellow. My sheets are now perfectly white and the small stains on the collar and sleeves of my shirt are gone! I'm amazed and this is going to be my new white routine! It's mild - doesn't attack the fibers and lightens white things better than bleach. It looks like magic!
