I bought these mittens specifically for clearing snow during the cold winter months. I've been shoveling snow for years and the rest of my body felt very comfortable with layers to peel off as I warmed up while shoveling. However, I have worn normal gloves with my fingers for all these years. I have used good quality gloves but certainly not gloves for extreme cold or professional outdoor use. Anyway, my fingers were always very cold when shoveling, and often when I went back inside and took off the gloves, my hands and fingers would hurt from the sudden change in temperature. I got very fed up with this and finally settled on a good quality pair of mittens as mittens keep hands warm as fingers are not insulated from each other. I like the dexterity of gloves, but I don't need that dexterity at all when working with a shovel. I've used these Carhartt gloves for shoveling about a dozen times. Sometimes I was there for 45 minutes or even a little longer and my hands weren't cold at all. And when I go back in my hands feel great and there is no shock when my fingers go from cold to warm. For the money these mittens are great. They fit my needs perfectly and I am very happy with my purchase. For any work in the cold that doesn't require dexterity, I would highly recommend these mittens if you like comfortable and happy hands.
