Review on Power Z36 1509 Extreme Severe Hardware by Derrick Patterson

Bites harder than OEM. but only when it's very warm

After driving 2300 miles I decided to do a quick review of the z36-1509 I bought for a 2nd generation Nissan Armada and I paired it with brand new EBC BSD rotors. I bought these pads because the manufacturer claims they are 10% better than OEM. The Armada's OEM pads already work pretty well, so I figured I'd be happy even if they were generally on par with the OEM. Not quite. While these pads have a higher coefficient of friction than OEM giving you shorter stopping distances, it's only there when it's warm and terrible when it's cold. You need to get the pads up to a certain temperature before they will work as advertised. If you drive a few minutes on the Autobahn, your brakes will definitely drop in temperature - below the optimum operating temperature for these pads. However, it doesn't have a comfortable usable temperature range than the OEM as you need to stay within that specific warm/hot temperature range at all times to get a good bite. I know it would be ideal for certain driving scenarios, but not for me. I mostly drive on the freeway. On the other hand, they have no noise and less dust than the OEM ones. And it will disappear just like OEM.

Pros
  • High-quality stainless steel seals ensure better heat dissipation AND almost silent braking.
Cons
  • Annoying
