Only share this information if it helps someone; I know I had a lot of questions and did a lot of research before purchasing and wasn't sure if this adapter would work. My system looks like this: Dell OptiPlex 7010 DT with 3rd generation I7 (Ivy Bridge) processor. 16GB storage, 500GB HD and 240GB SSD, DVD burner. I am using an integrated Intel HD 4000 GPU. I'm using Windows 10 booting from an SSD. I have connected an external sound system to the Line In on the back (subwoofer and 2 speakers). I have my mouse and keyboard plugged into two separate USB 2.0 ports on the back of my desktop. I mainly use this computer for flight sim (Flight Gear 2018.1.1 and Microsoft Flight Simulator X Deluxe Edition). I also connected the CH Yoke and CH Pedals via separate USB 3.0 ports on the back of the desktop. The system had 3 monitor ports: one VGA and two Displayport ports. At first I only used the VGA connection since I only had one monitor; but wanted to add two more monitors with the built in displayports so that in my flight sims one monitor is facing the front and the other two monitors are on either side with a view out of the left window and one view out of the right window. For my project, I bought three identical LED monitors: 21.5" screen and 1920 x 1080 resolution. Each of these monitors has a VGA input and an HDMI input. After getting these StarTech adapters (I have two ordered one of these), I connected my middle (main) monitor to the VGA ports on the monitor and the computer, I then plugged one of these StartTech adapters into one of the computer's display ports and a second StarTech adapter into a different display port on the computers. I then connected an HDMI cable to each of these adapters and plugged the other end of each cable into an HDMI input port on each of the other two monitors. I placed the HDMI monitors on either side of the main monitor, connected all the cables and power cord on, hit the power button and the computer, crossed your fingers and held your breath. The system booted up fine. Windows 10 recognized each of the 3 monitors and for each mon itor set the correct resolution. My main desktop and desktop icons appeared on my "left" monitor (HDMI). The other two monitors had the Windows 10 taskbar and main screen. I then went to the display settings and Windows 10 identified all 3 monitors and gave them a unique reference number (1, 2, 3). I had to rearrange the monitors so that the mouse pointer moves smoothly from the leftmost monitor to the center monitor to the rightmost monitor. I had to go into the sound settings to change the sound output to the internal sound card (and therefore to my external speakers); By default, the system sent audio to one of the monitors via a Displayport/HDMI cable. I then went into each of the two software flight simulators and was able to get the image exactly how I wanted (it took several hours to set up the software as I'm new to using flight simulator software!). The center monitor (VGA) now showed the forward cockpit window (as well as the helm station and instruments), the left monitor (HDMI) showed the view from the left window of the aircraft, and the right monitor (HDMI) showed the view from the right cockpit window. Flying around a bit, all three monitors matched as expected. The steering wheel and rudder pedals worked properly during flight. In summary, these StarTech adapters worked right out of the box for my needs and system. Let's hope these converters are well made and last a long time. Hope the above is helpful.
