I find the product description misleading. The plastic material that makes up the white plastic plug and cap is not mentioned in the description, but the info box mentions ABS plastic. So my guess is that both parts are probably made of ABS plastic. ABS plastic is not a food grade material. While you can leave a plastic stopper on a water bottle, part of the cap isn't covered by the silicone ring and comes in contact with hot water. For a teacup that says so much about food safety in the description, that's not normal. I am returning the item.
