Golden State Art offer a decent B+ precut rug in several sizes which saves me a lot of time. Combined with the thick underlays offered by Golden, I can accurately mount and matt a print in less than five minutes and I'm done. The outer black finish is almost the same as the Crescent plate, but the layer isn't as thick, leaving subtle bevels in the corners. I wouldn't use them for a finished framed print, but I have absolutely no problem with the cellophane sleeved matte prints for sale at the gallery. This has become my standard practice. This of course allows you to charge competitive prices while maintaining an optimal presentation of your work. The matte black really makes your colors pop. Golden told me that the front and back of the mats and backs are archival in nature. There is no core. I'm no Michelangelo and really doubt my work will be hung in temperature/humidity controlled spaces, so the outside possibility of 150 years of print degradation doesn't matter. Pros: Beautiful, inexpensive, quick to use. Cons: You get stuck with the suggested formats. My finishing studio is well stocked with these products.
