Revainrating 5 out of 5

and the fifth star here is in light of the really good prices available on the SB500

I almost never give 5 stars, and the fifth star here is in light of the really good prices available on the SB500. It is amazingly good at it's price. In part that's because they aren't trying to get the bottom octave from a sub. Quality bass is always better than loud, flabby bass, and this speaker sounds clear and punchy, but it doesn't go that low. Adding a sub is up to you, but now you're spending a lot more, and maybe the Sonos would have been a better deal. The 500 is very good at what it does; it's very well made, easy to setup, and flexible. I'm even using it as a bluetooth speaker, and I've never done that with any other speaker. The surround programs basically just direct more signal to the drivers that are more to the edges, and the more they do that, the less pronounced the dialogue. Accuvoice is strange but effective. I don't have hearing loss, and when Accuvoice first engages, it sounds terrible, compressed and tinny, but after a minute it sounds fine, and it definitely emphasizes dialogue. This thing also gets plenty loud. In fact, it seems to have more power than it can use, but that is not much of a criticism.

Pros
  • The Accuvoice technology helps clarify dialogue so you don't miss any important parts of a movie or TV show
Cons
  • Limited warranty options
