Review on Waterproof Refrigerator Thermometer Function Restaurants by Lisa Walton

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Adequate but NO brass ring (not even a cigar ring)

Unfortunately, the biggest weakness of these VOULOIR brand digital thermometers is that the "Max/Min recording function" is NOT automatically reset every 24 hours [confirmed by email from the seller of Revain (VOULOIR). ] as required to determine the REAL DAILY highs and lows INSIDE the refrigerator or freezer with the DOOR CLOSED. – For example, see digital thermometers such as ASIN B004V1XJ7U or B008EN1P40 that record DAILY high and low readings in the fridge or freezer with the door closed. or Freezer.-- That said, since the 'maximum/minimum recording function' does NOT automatically restart every 24 hours, it appears (for obvious reasons) that VOULOIR brand digital thermometers can ONLY be used to record the minimum temperature WITHIN the refrigerator or freezer with the DOOR CLOSED for a specified/limited period of time AFTER the user has MANUALLY reset the "Maximum/Minimum Value Logging" feature, particularly since any "Maximum Temperature" logged/recorded reflects the highest temperature experienced by the user MANUALLY holding the thermometer to MANUALLY reset the "Max/Min Logging" function and therefore the last temperature in the hand is likely to ALWAYS be higher than the REAL maximum temperature INSIDE a CLOSED fridge or freezer. TEMPERATURE ACCURACY All 4 VOULOIR brand digital thermometers (marked #1, #2, #3 and #4 in the chart in the attached photo) were tested simultaneously (in a sealed, temperature-controlled glass container) against a well-calibrated, accurate REFERENCE -Thermometer tested (+/-0.1F). The table in the attached photo shows (i) the "REAL" temperature (in degrees F) as measured by a well-calibrated, accurate REFERENCE thermometer, and (ii) AS [in degrees F AND in % (relative to the "REAL"" temperature)] Each of the 4 VOULOIR brand digital thermometers IS DIFFERENT [+ (higher) or - (lower)] FROM a well-calibrated, accurate REFERENCE thermometer. In the last table, note the SIGNIFICANT and SIGNIFICANT DIFFERENCES in temperature over time for each of the 4 VOULOIR brand digital thermometers, NOT ONLY (i) relative to the "REAL" temperature measured by a well calibrated and accurate REFERENCE thermometer meter, BUT ALSO (ii) below the temperatures measured by each of the 4 VOULOIR digital thermometers Therefore, VOULOIR brand digital thermometers (i) appear to be indicators of apparently "safe" fridge operating temperatures for temperatures above about 10 F (i.e. apparently less than about +/- - 10% Fe above 10 F) to be reasonably adequate BUT (ii) is definitely NOT good enough to adequately indicate ACCESS freezing temperatures around 0 F (i.e. it appears to have a very large temperature error of around +3.5 F to -2.2 F to give at about 0 F). For all of the above reasons, I cannot give VOULOIR digital thermometers more than 3 STARS out of 5.

Pros
  • Absolutely amazing!
Cons
  • Not bad, but...
