Review on Versatile Dimmable Remote Control with Color-Changing Capability by Gerald Reeves

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Wide range of bright colors and some programmability

These ProPOW bulbs have most of the colors outside of smart bulbs without the shutdown and failure issues that many report with smart bulbs and other color changing bulbs. There are a few errors in the feedback and Q&A that need to be corrected. You don't need an expensive CR2 battery. The only battery required is a CR2025 button cell battery for the remote control, which is supplied with the kit. Instructions on how to use the remote control are also included. I will give you more detailed instructions for those who may not have received them. The illuminant is screwed into standard sockets. Turn on the power. Then press the red power button in the top left corner of the remote control. Pressing the middle button in the top row toggles the bright white setting, or the button below toggles the dim white night light setting. The up or down arrows on the third row give you 5 brightness settings ranging from night light to bright white and back again. To select a color, you must start with the red, green, or blue button at the top of the vertical colored bars on the last row of the remote control. Then press the green, blue, or red button below the pressed button to choose a color between them. Each panel has 40 settings. You can hold the top or bottom pad button to switch between them faster. It's difficult to press a button fast enough to see that there are 40 different color settings. To save your favorite colors other than red, green, and blue, which you can always quickly access when the backlight is on, press the number button 1, 2, or 3. Then select the red, green, or blue button and set the color you want with the button colors underneath. Pressing a non-colored or off button saves it. You'll then see your color when you press a number key, unless you press the color key after selecting it, which will change your setting. Each color displayed can be lightened or darkened using the up and down buttons. All single colors selected thereafter will be displayed in this lightness level, including your saved colors, until you switch back to the lightness level. You can program the lightbulb to flash different colors. With the light on, hold down the D button on the second row until the light turns off after a few seconds. Press the red, green, or blue button at the top of each panel or button 1, 2, or 3 with saved colors, the night light button, or the bright white button in the order you want. You can press up to 10 times and repeat each of these keys as you wish. Then press the D button again to save the program. Pressing the D button will cycle through the colors you've selected and they'll persist through a power outage, just like your saved colors. Cyclic colors are always displayed with maximum brightness. Pressing the up and down arrows while cycling changes the bike speed at 5 different speeds. I wish separate buttons for speed and brightness had more playback options, and I could use two more color memory buttons. The S button on the third row seamlessly cycles through all 120 colors in about 20 seconds. Unfortunately, neither the brightness nor the speed can be changed. After pressing the "On" button after the power off button you will return to what the lightbulb was doing last time. Turning off the power to the lightbulb will also reset it to the last setting it had when it was turned on. Switching on and off within 5 seconds toggles between last setting, bright white and white night light. This is a nice feature when you want to put a lightbulb in a hard-to-reach spot for the remote, but have a wall switch and can't settle for anything other than your favorite setting. The timer button at the end of the second row adds an hour with each press, confirmed by flashing off/on before the lights go out, up to 12 hours as indicated by the number of flashes. If you press any other button after that, the timer will be canceled. It's the lightbulb that saves the settings. If you use a different remote control and have purchased more than one lightbulb, the saved settings for that lightbulb will be selected, not the one the remote was last used for. Many of the 120 colors are very similar. If you combine only two colors at a time, like all colored light bulbs do, and only have five levels of brightness, you will not get colors like brown, dark purple, gold, silver and others. The colors you will actually receive are limited to variations of red, green, blue, orange, yellow, purple, pink and blue. I really enjoy these pears.
