The HC530 emits a click sound every 5 seconds when idle. On the same day of purchase, I handed it back to the store, they already sent it to the service. Already along the way I got acquainted with the reviews of the owners of the HC 530, as well as about smaller hard drives (WD of the same Ultrastar line). Some people write that they have a similar knock, but some people write that they don’t have this knock of heads every few seconds! In particular, we are talking about the HC 530. 1. "I don't have these problems. It's very quiet. You can hear movement noise when you download torrents at 100%. There are no clicks." 2. "There are no regular knocks. I have a strong knock for a few seconds when turning it on and off. When actively working with more than one thread (simultaneous reading and writing or two writes, etc.), the heads also knock very noticeably, but out of order. With one thread there is no noise." This is even more depressing, since it turns out that this is not a technological feature of ALL drives in this line, but a technological defect of some of them. And most importantly, everything can be attributed to the fact that they say this is a server hard drive, and it should be loud. But let's separate the flies from the cutlets. Vibration, hum and working crunch is just nothing in terms of volume compared to this constant knock of heads every 4-5 seconds (in idle). I called the most authoritative digital information recovery center in St. Petersburg (knowledgeable people are in the know, those who do not know - they have an old school site :). Regarding the HC 530, they said that in idle time such a head knock every few seconds in a new disk out of the box should not be, this is a marriage. And in the service center they said that the constant knocking of heads every 4-5 seconds for this HC530 is the norm, that this is a server HDD, it should be loud, blah blah blah, in general, get rid of it (( So wrote in conclusion. But the store went to meet me, exchanged this WD HC530 for a Toshiba x300 similar in volume and price. The latter does not have this constant knock on idle. No hum or vibration. It is also cold and quiet in operation: only a working crunch of medium volume. draw your own conclusions)
