Review on πŸ”ͺ NT Cutter Mat Board Cutter, 45 Degree Bevel, 1 Cutter (MAT-45P) by Carol Miller

DOES NOT CUT 45 DEGREES.

This unit is disappointing because it doesn't cut at a 45 degree angle. I needed a cutter to make a 45 degree cut to connect two pieces of styrofoam and create a clean 90 degree angle. This is not the intended use of this product. Most likely this machine cuts at a 38 degree angle as my research has shown that most carpet cutters cut at a 38 degree angle (I could be wrong). The difference between 45 and 38 degrees is so small that you probably won't notice the difference when cutting mats. As a mat cutter, this device will actually work quite well. The blade is sharp and replacement parts are available. It is well built and includes a "stop" to control the depth of cut. The user has to press on the spring to make the notch, which I like but some users dislike (the spring can most likely be removed, although it's probably not recommended by the manufacturer). It appears to be a well designed and manufactured Japanese product, unlike most of the fakes I come across on Amazon. I want it to be cut at a 45 degree angle as described; I would give 5 stars. I sent the device back as I will never cut mats for framing.
