Comes with batteries, easy to use, accurate compared to the traditional undertongue thermometers we have used before. The Lo light comes on if you don't get close enough and it doesn't work outside as it appears to be showing an ambient temperature (it was 100 degrees outside) as I checked on people outside before they came to a small gather. . Suggested Instruction: Press the power button and wait for the dotted lines to appear, hold it about 2" from dry forehead, press and release the button (do not hold the button or it will turn off off).It will beep for 1-2 seconds with the temperature.I was a little worried it wouldn't be easy to read but it's perfectly clear and bright.
