The old shade cord succumbed and was completely unusable (see photo of the old cord). This nylon drawstring just fits perfectly. It was easy to replace the worn out cable with this one which is definitely stronger and I expect it to last a lot longer. It was easy to seal the ends of the cord by applying a small flame to it and gently squeezing the melted nylon to ensure a good seal and prevent the cord from fraying. Overall it works well (see photo of the refurbished lampshade). It's definitely a lot better than replacing the entire lampshade and I still have a lot of cord left over that I can use for other purposes.
