Review on Enhanced Home Connectivity: Linksys Tri-Band WiFi Router (Max-Stream AC2200 MU-MIMO Fast Wireless Router), black by Chris Weber

The signal strength is very good, but not outstanding.

I bought this WiFi router to replace my old (8 year old) EA6300 dual band WiFi router. Now that my family streams TV through PCs or Roku devices, I need something more reliable for streaming. I was also hoping for a significant increase in strength as this product is advertised for an area of 2000m². ft. The area of my house is less than 1300 square meters. ft. Signal strength, while slightly better, is far from what I was hoping for. This is likely due to the location of the router and the structural elements around it. Other than upgrading to a "mesh" system, which is significantly more expensive and would require running ethernet cables through walls to really reap the benefits of a mesh network, this is probably the best I've considered of the current state of the art can do. The setup and user interface is the same as the EA6300, except for the range control, dfs, VLAN and fair airtime parameters. While I like the band control feature, I would have liked more control over the channels used for each band. Unfortunately, in order to use the band management feature, you must allow the router to "automatically" select a channel for each band. Interference from my neighbors' wireless access points limits the number of channels that work in my house, and the router has a habit of choosing suboptimal channels. Of course you can disable band management and assign channels to all three bands, but now you have to connect to multiple bands manually. Band Steering is more akin to a mesh system, which I think is a lot more comfortable. Life seems full of these compromises, doesn't it?
