Review on Tripp Lite Protector INSURANCE ULTRABLOK by Steve French

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Great price for a quality device.

The Tripp Lite Dual Outlet Isobar Air Conditioner/Surge Protector with Straight Plug is an excellent safety device for protecting fragile electronic equipment from power surges and power surges, but it is not designed to protect against lightning strikes. Strikes, power failures (power failure/shutdown) or slight voltage fluctuations typical of the network. It would be nice if these devices would block all current when a power surge occurs. But that would also be a major inconvenience because there could be 1,000 bursts in a day. Power supplies are full of transient transients (thousandths of a second) that can cause data errors, instantaneous audio and video artifacts, and cumulatively lead to premature failure of electronic equipment. Tripp Lite Isobar is designed to quickly suppress electrical surges. to a much lower voltage, but not usually to the normal 110-120 volt mains voltage. Thus, this device filters out the destructive elements inherent in the power grid. But it doesn't produce perfectly "clean" energy! It's impossible to ask a device to turn off all power on a random power surge, since no one knows how much it is. There are too many variables involved here. If the device needs to be unplugged, it must be pulled straight out. If tilted or twisted, it may break. It is also a "not" lightning rod. It is also not intended for use with extension cords or outlets. Its practical application is limited to protecting devices with sensitive electronics from excessive mains voltage fluctuations. True protection starts with uninterruptible power supplies (UPS). However, they must be converted twice, otherwise they do not offer sufficient protection. Tripp Lite also makes UPS. I use Isobar devices with printers, phone chargers, alarm clocks, laptop power adapters, USB chargers and the like. Expensive electronics are connected to the UPS units. Finally, like Isobar products, air conditioners do not provide specific protection against electric shock like the GFCI does. These two types of devices are also incompatible. I really like the product. But I also have realistic expectations.
