These 16 oz double wall fancyware mugs will keep your morning coffee hot for an hour. They don't work like a thermos and I don't think that's the purpose, so don't expect your drink to stay hot all day. After about an hour, your hot drink will still be warm, but not quite warm; and definitely not cold like a regular non-insulated open cup. I tested this with 12 ounces of hot water and left the lid on the entire time except to take the temp. Glass stored on a cold tile table: 9:48 am: 185 degrees F10:18 am: 148.5 degrees F 10:48 am: 126.2 degrees F They work well, as expected. I also have Bodum brand Pavina 12oz jars and another random brand in the same style except they don't have lids. Bodum also states that it is borosilicate glass. In my rush to order, I forgot to verify that these 16oz fancyware jars were also borosilicate. My test with water at 185 degrees Fahrenheit proves that they are relatively resistant to thermal shock. They feel the same as my other two glasses and appear to be the same thickness. So I assume they have the same properties as borosilicate glass. Other features: - They are not sealed. I inverted a glass filled with water and dripped a little from it. I wasn't expecting them to be airtight but was glad the lid stayed in place - the silicone seal peels away from the lid which is good for cleaning and preventing bacteria or mold - they are not presented as a set of 2 , but are supplied individually in the color packaging and in foam foil. For some, this may play a role when planning to give a gift - bamboo has a very subtle woody aroma; This is not a chemical smell, but a natural one. Haven't noticed any transfer to my coffee but might be with finer flavored teas - large Fancyware logo on the lid. I wish it was empty, but that doesn't matter - they're relatively strong for the thickness of the glass, but I still recommend handling them with care. I'm not saying they don't break and break; I only broke the bodum in the shell due to rough handling and I expect them to be the same. It didn't really take long, so hand wash them and treat them like they're valuable - they're relatively insulating but not vacuum like a thermos. There is still a drop in temperature, but much more slowly than in a regular glass or mug. I've also made the mistake of putting a similar glass from a different brand in the dishwasher and waterlogging can actually occur between the layers of glass. Even though they aren't vacuum sealed, I still wouldn't risk using a microwave. I don't think hot air can escape from under the walls fast enough and collapse on extension - they come with a one year money back guarantee. All in all, great glasses for the price and serve their purpose. I'm so glad I have this plus size with lid - so perfect for my morning mug!
