I bought a size 7/8 thinking it would be loose on my almost 7 year old and when buttoned up it was tight. The medium usually suits him better. I could go and take the next size up and that would be fine. Go two sizes up for a looser fit. Too bad I didn't read the description carefully enough, but I was expecting cotton and it looked like nylon material. The prints are good, but it won't be as comfortable on a hot day
