This is one of my three lenses and it's a damn good lens. It can shoot landscapes and portraits, and has decent close-up photography (no macro capabilities). As many reviewers have pointed out, it's slow on the long end, but for what I do most of the time, shallow depth of field isn't a requirement. Actually, I mostly shoot between f/5.6 and f/11 with this lens. In my opinion, this is the sharpest between these apertures. It's not weatherproof and doesn't have a depth-of-field scale, but I don't notice either. For night shots you should use high ISOs, which can be a problem with the E-300 due to excess noise above ISO 400. Maybe the new bodies live better? I also have an EX-25 and with this lens it only works at 45mm and you have to be very close to the subject. This lens was part of an E-300 dual lens kit and the money saved enabled me to buy accessories like a vertical grip, extra batteries, CF cards, an actual tripod, studio gear and more. It's tempting to keep up with technology in the digital age, but I just couldn't find a reason to switch this lens.
