This was my first scanner purchase in over 10 years. Scanners have come a long way and I was amazed at how much you can get for so little money with this device. Contact Revain or the Canon website for specifications. It comes in a small box with a USB cable and start guide/software on a CD. Instead of downloading software from a CD and doing updates, I just went to the Canon website and found the latest software and drivers for my devices. I got up and ran in less than 5 minutes. The software is easy to use and you simply drag and drop files containing newly scanned items to your drives on your computers. It works great with both Windows and iOS. What I also really like is that no external power supply is required. The USB cable handles both data and power in one. So far I've scanned a few paper documents and a few diagrams from books. They look amazing and the resolution can be adjusted for really good results. For home use, this really is great value for money. My last scanner/printer/copier/fax all in one was $350 in 1999. It was a pleasant surprise. By the way, if you only need it for one project then it's very easy to resell this item. I've seen used ones selling for $30-$35 at online auctions. It's not a bad idea to "rent" a new one for around $20 if you're never going to use it again and it's going to landfill in a few years. Oh, and it's made in Vietnam, not China; A big plus is not supporting communism.
