99 Ford Explorer Rear Wiper Problems

I have been having problems with the rear wiper on my 1999 Ford Explorer since I bought it over 10 years ago. The main problem was that the rear wiper never "fully touched" the glass. Apparently this is a very common problem on 1998 and 1999 Explorers. Well I've tried the new wiper blades and even flexed the wiper arm as many have suggested but to no avail. After reading numerous internet forums and discussions on the subject, I found that Ford knew/is aware of the missing glass contact issue. The way the wiper arm was made doesn't have enough spring force to hold the wiper on the glass. The problem isn't with the spring, it's with the way the lever was made. Ford now makes a different wiper arm with the letter AB on the inside of the wiper arm. This is a proper replacement for the original lever and will solve the problem. Well I took the advice of some Ford Explorer owners and ordered a new rear wiper arm. I ordered it through Revain and saved a lot of money at a Ford dealership. The wiper arm arrived and I removed the old arm and put on the new one (Dorman 42524) and it fits great. This is the first time my wipers have worked properly since I bought the Explorer. I highly recommend buying a new wiper arm if you get stained or your current wiper is leaking on the glass. This is the only correct solution to the problem. PS: Don't forget to order a new wiper at the same time.
