Yes, you can take a sheet of plywood and build it yourself, but it's a really good option if you don't want to build it yourself. It's pretty easy to put all the holes together, pre-drilled and countersunk. I followed another reviewer's (volpster31) suggestion and installed the bottom shelf in the lowest section and ended up with a much larger bottom shelf. Yes I can only hold 3 drills now but this works great for me and the extra storage space is great. It was a very good idea and I thank him for it. Overall I am satisfied with this purchase.
