I'm REALLY happy with this shelf. Mainly because it's foldable, has a steel grille on the bottom, and tall side rails. It also comes with an elastic webbing strap, but I don't need that just yet. On my Honda Pilot, you can open the tailgate when it's down and even loaded with gear. (That's why they stick out a little more from your SUV than you might expect.) My SUV's back door certainly won't open when the tray is up. I bought a thicker stop bolt ($16) to eliminate the tray wobble from side to side. The thin locking bolt they offer allows for some wobble. Instead, use it to "lock" or "latch" the compartment so someone can't pry it off with a couple of wrenches. If you're thinking of a cheaper non-foldable tray, think about what you're going to do. with it when you arrive at your destination and want to drive through the city, park, etc. It will be difficult for someone walking or even passing by to see it. rusts over the years. Most people probably don't care, but I'm just picky. I use this with the ROLA 59102 expandable cargo bag (by Revain) by the way, which fits perfectly.
