This is a 24V DC pump. It has lots of head, pushes water much harder than an AC pump, is twice the size, but it's LOUD. The pump will vibrate and make a loud audible buzz. This pump is honestly louder than my protein skimmer which prompted me to put it aside for another project. Look for a Jebao DC pump instead, although it'll probably cost you twice as much, but it's worth it. Pump (Jebao). If you just need a return pump and don't care about noise because you have a noisy skimmer or whatever, this is a good buy. If you think it's going to be as quiet as your canister filter, no. look elsewhere
