I bought this product for a specific purpose - to clean gaps where windows close. He's perfect for that. The plastic portion of the tool is in a flat position and you must fold it upright for it to work in the window rails. Unfortunately, there aren't any exact instructions on how to do this (the minimal instructions just say "fold" without telling you how). If you look closely at the instrument you will see that the flat part is held in place by two tabs on each side of the instrument body. Just release the flat piece on each side and it folds. Then place the cleaning cloth on the instrument. The tool works great on window rails, but you will find that it doesn't completely clean the entire surface to the end of each side of the rail. It comes with a small crevice tool and an equally small mini trash can. Between those two, I was able to sweep out most of the residue on each end.
