As you can see from the photos they are thinner than #8 and have blunt threads I wouldn't trust to hold a large bow tie. You can feel how light they are when you pick them up. Maybe they're metric, maybe they're just cheap - made in China, and that's enough. I paid about $42 for 6 of these packs - 60 grommets for one project. As soon as I opened them I knew they would come back. Walked into a big store and bought a pack of 50 for $9 and you can see how superior they are to this product. Don't waste money on them.
