Review on Fotasy Canon FD Lens to Canon EOS RF Mount Metal Adapter: Perfect Fit for Canon FD Mount Classic Manual Lens & Canon EOS R Mirrorless Camera EOS R/RP/Ra/R5/R6 by Chad Judex

This Canon FD to Canon EOS R adapter is almost perfect. It's very heavy for what it is - it's made of a lot of metal. Both ends of the adapter fit very well: both the camera side (EOS R) and the lens side (FD) connect with a reassuring and firm clink. Distances appear to be accurate - no problem focusing at infinity. I was expecting to pay A LOT more to fit my old Canon FD lenses to my beautiful new EOS R. This adapter makes it possible! It's hard to understand why anyone would choose to buy something more expensive. Now for the FD lenses - they EXIST with my new RF lenses (24-105mm f/4L IS USM and 35mm f/1.8 IS STM). I took some carefully planned shots with the FD 135mm f/2 and 100mm f/2.8 lenses. Before I got down to the pixel level, I could see that the images were soft. Even up to f/5.6 they were still soft. My FD 135 appears to be slightly offset (pixel phantoms are visible); my 100 is just soft. I (naively?) expected more. Also, the nifty little box with your fingers above it that moves as you focus that the R has as a second manual focus assist isn't visible on these lenses either. This is a big disappointment for me. You still have the glowing red focus footage and you can zoom in up to 10x with the EVF, so (generally) manual focus is fine. (I'm assuming the box/finger help is only possible if the camera can "hear" the position of the lens' focus.) Unfortunately. However. It's still nice to be able to put your old Canon glass on a new Canon camera. Addendum: I also bought a Leica M lens adapter for the EOS R and it looks like reviews of this item will end up here as well. The quality of the adapter is also excellent in every respect. Highly recommended! The biggest difference is that the old Leica M lenses that I inherited from my father are very, very good. Pixel-level image quality is superb. I'm a lucky tourist!
