First, the unit I received didn't have a noisy fan, it was surprisingly quiet, my laptop's fan is louder. Second, I was surprised that there weren't any slots in the drive bays to guide or hold them in place. The drive simply sits upright in its slot. My large 10TB drive tilts and seems to rattle when the drive is moved. The second drive is a tiny 2.5" SATA SSD. You just have to put it in, but it fits and because the disc was so light, it held up well. However, once I set it up and started writing data to it, I got lost write errors from my Linux system and then both drives went offline. I've cycled both drives off and back on each time with the same result. I wanted to look at the SMART data but my car didn't see it. Strange. So I took out the 2.5" SSD and plugged it into another USB port with a simple cable adapter. It worked like a charm - and I was able to see all the SMART data. My conclusion is that any hardware/software in the box that supports 2 drives either can't handle the 500MB/s drives being used, or doesn't have enough power (although an SSD should consume almost nothing), or isn't fully open will correct disks for the operating system. Anyway, it wasn't a big win for me. It's a pretty shiny black box with a cool magnetic lid, but I really need it to work for me.
