I always carry a contact lens case from the doctor's office when I go for an eye exam. They hold much less solution than screw-top containers, so they save money on solution. And you don't have to worry about losing or mixing up caps. When one of the covers on my last case came off (admittedly, these are cheap and poor quality cases not meant for long-term use), anyway when my last case broke, I needed a replacement. That's what I get from my doctor. And now I have three of them, so if another one breaks, I have a backup. They do not let water through, so they must be stored upright. It's not a problem for me as I only take out contact lenses at night and keep the case on the bathroom counter.
