I've been using a 30w 120v soldering iron for almost 30 years and this is my first dedicated base station. First statement: OMFG, why didn't I get one of these sooner. Thermal heating is almost instantaneous compared to the 15/30w 120v switchable pencil I usually use. The interface and settings seem good. Unlike other reviews I've seen online where someone switched the neutral instead of the hot and then switched the neutral to ground, mine was routed correctly. I had a good chassis ground and it was also routed through the iron connection for ESD and the LINE side was switched to the transformer. Now for the BAD part. As other reviewers have pointed out, the vacuum pump is terrible here. i suck Actually it's a problem, it's not. Even a small amount of solder was left all over the place (and yes, I cleaned and went through the tip. You can even just unplug the vacuum line and feel the lack of real suction. You can find a replacement vacuum pump and find out how much/painful it is to put it in but if it proves too painful I have to return the product I can find a good soldering base station for MUCH less $$ if that's all I get out of it.
