Review on πŸš— Avital 1-Way Vehicle Keyless Entry System by Directed Electronics Inc 2101L by John Young

Perfect fit for my Ford Ranger! I love the progressive door opening feature!

This is amazing! I have a Ford Ranger that does not have power windows/locks etc. For many years I've opened the truck with the key and it can be a complete PITA when it's raining or someone's hands are busy. I can get by with manual windows, but keyless entry is almost mandatory. I found two door openers in my "stuff" pile and decided I'd had enough and wanted to get into the keyless entry setup. There are MANY websites/forums that will help you with wiring. So don't be put off by the pile of cables. In my opinion, given the cost of this device, it was not difficult. It's not difficult to install. You will probably need more time to take the car apart and install the actuators, route the wires, solder everything and then test etc. I wanted to use the progressive unlocking feature. That means I press the unlock button once and the driver's door opens. Press the button again within 15 seconds and my passenger door will open. Since I have a truck and drive it 99% of the time, I didn't want the passenger side unlocking every time. To connect it correctly: NOTE. You need another relay to control the second door actuator (passenger side) [B+ is PLUS 12V from battery] H1/9 purple UNLOCK 87 = B+ constantly hot (fuse) H1/7 purple/black LOCK 87 = B+ always hot ( with fuse) Hq1/17 brown/black UNLOCK 87a = GROUND H1/6 white/black LOCK 87a = GROUND H1/8 blue/black UNLOCK 30 = DRIVER UNLOCK cable H1/5 green/black LOCK 30 = BOTH DRIVES LOCK cable (obviously It requires 12V DC, ignition and ground are not shown in the diagram above as this is self-explanatory in the manual) Now you need a relay for UNLOCK PASSENGER (2nd unlocking) 30 = PASSENGER drive UNLOCK wire87a = GND87 and 86 = B+ Always hot ( fuse) 85 = 2101 H1/2 blue 2nd release wire. I hope the above helps as I've searched A LOT for the progressive unlock feature and haven't found much. I also ordered a small buzzer, so now when I press unlock/lock it makes a chirp instead of a beep. I found the beeping to be very annoying, especially if you get in the car often or it's late at night. With a total cost of less than $40 and now with keyless access to my truck, I couldn't be happier! Keep in mind this can be a bit more expensive depending on your door operators and the need for purchase, wiring, relays etc. But if you are interested in this type of project, most likely you already have the necessary items and materials ready for it. installation. In summary, all I wanted was a way to remotely unlock/lock my truck. Avital is a quality brand! Excellent price. Now I have progressive door locks. The unit chirps just like the OEM system and my parking lights flash just like the OEM system. The device has many options including unlock with car off (3 seconds) and lock with car on (3 seconds). I'm glad I did and even more glad I don't have to fiddle with the key anymore.
