We live in Chicago with our 1.5 year old. Before she was born, we loved to ride our bikes along the lake. In the last year and a half we have taken to strolling along the lake shore with the stroller. Enough! When researching the possibilities of cycling with a toddler, I first compared the approach to a fixed seat and a special bike trailer. Consumer Reports says that a bike trailer is a safer option because of the child's closer height to the ground. I also liked the idea that we could drive with a trailer and then unhitch it like a sidecar. Seemed perfect for our lifestyle. The biggest questions back then were price, size and brand. After a few days with a few Chrome tabs open, I finally settled on Encore X. During this research, I compared trailers of different levels (beginner, intermediate, rich). status symbol). After a while, Thule and Burley seemed to be the biggest players in the industry, so the search narrowed. Then, while comparing different models and reading articles, the topic "You get what you pay for" arose. It took me a few days to swallow the possibility that I'd spend more than a few hundred dollars on one of these. Finally I weighed the decision to buy a 1 or 2 seater car. In the end, I chose the Encore X based on the price, the 2-seater option (for space and friends), and the functionality of the stroller. We took a stroller with our daughter on 3 excursions on the lake. All three times were great. Our last outing was during the Pride Parade. We wanted to get away from the crowds so we decided to go to the zoo for the afternoon. The traffic was a nightmare. Public transport has been blocked. But the bike path was almost empty. We loaded the trailer with a small snack cooler (and our daughter) and drove to the zoo. The bike ride was effortless. Then when we got to the zoo, we locked the bikes, jumped out of the trailer, went into sidecar mode and walked around the zoo. Daughter was happy all the time. Then, after the zoo, we hitched the trailer back to the bikes and drove home. The sudden rain even made it possible for us to use rain gear and I'm happy to report that our daughter stayed dry while her parents got wet. I read the Wired article and gave it a 5/10. I personally have not encountered any steering problem. He stays where he is. Ventilation seems good too, and if it's a particularly hot day you can lift the back cover all the way (unless it's raining, then, to be honest, you have other issues besides ventilation). We love it. Worth the price of the ticket.
